Environmental actions of the human species seem to be main cause of global warming. Not aware of how our actions of today effect tomorrow, humans generally respond to nature with a sense of carless action. In articles such as, “The Deconstruction of Whiteness” and excerpts from the book “The World without Us” by Alan Weisman it is seen that the human specie will become extinct shortly, due to the lack of environmental concern. The accounts of the human life behaviors are the reason why the prediction of species extinction is the most common consequence.
In the article “Ecopsychology and the Deconstruction of Whiteness” Carl Anthony is interviewed by Theodore Roszak and discusses white domination and their supremacy over the environment. Considering the fact that this article talks about the essential power of whites, it is seen that black individuals are still in the slave mentality. The article states, “Anthony: It’s incredibly ironic. And it’s never talked about in the environmental literature. There’s simply no acknowledgment of that experience. I see it as central to the ecological issue that when blacks were forced to work the land, the process of human domination and the exploitation of nature occurred at exactly the same time.” Anthony is suggesting blacks are still in the position of the slaves. The reason why I came across this explanation is because, it is seen that white supremacy is in control of the nature and the environment. Based on the fact that majority of the industrial companies and marketing advertisements are owned by white owners, they are the ones who contribute to global warming.
Meanwhile, in Alan Weisman’s text “The World without Us” it states “The notion that someday nature could swallow whole something as colossal and concrete as a modern city doesn’t slide easily into our imaginations.” In this particular quote Weisman is stating that the world we live in can’t be pictured erased. However, if the human behaviors of negative environmental contributions continue the world will vanish within our eyes including the human species.
“Ecopsychology and the Deconstruction of Whiteness” and “The World without Us” are two texts that can be compared together. The way these two text connection is by: cause and effect. The article “Ecopsychology and the Deconstruction of Whiteness” is mostly illustrated as a guide to describe the action of humans and their behaviors. On the other hand, “The World without Us” by Alan Weisman is showing the predicted results of the world and what will come if white supremacy continues to take advantage of the world. Overall, the human species can prepare for extinction if they continue there behaviors.
